Macy's does not reuse plastic hangers

I found out from a clerk at Macy's that if you do not opt to take the hanger which your purchase came from, they throw them out! Why not reuse or recycle them? Why do they do this? This does not make any sense. Aren't we all supposed to be "Green?"

All over the store, they have shirts endorsing the "Green" movement. They also have bags you can purchase to save using plastic bags over and over again.

How "green" is putting plastic hangers in landfills?

They should be investigated and cited for this! This is really crazy.

I am a Macy's sales associate and have been for almost 2 years (I worked for another department store chain that Macy's bought out for 21 years). I don't know who told you Macy's does not reuse the plastic hangers...we most definately do! We have special metal racks that we hang the empty hangers on when the clothing is sold. They are picked up each morning. Some of our clothing comes in already on hangers but some comes folded and must be hung up on the hangers of clothing that was sold previously.  

 

Also, we no longer have shopping bags that are plastic coated. The new ones are made of heavy paper and are made partially of recycled paper. 

 

We gave away seedling trees a week ago and also a lot of the fabric shopping bags. 

 

Macy's definately in environmentally conscious and is doing their part to help the cause.
