The More Money You Spend - The Worse Your Experience Will Be

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I literally have NEVER had such a miserable experience as I have had since we were *** enough to spend $12,000+ in furniture in the past few months. (Not to mention we just got married - we registered with Macy's and bought all of our household items there - so that amount is actually north of $20,000.) First we were lied to about what was in stock vs what wasn't by our sales person (her name is Joan - she's in the Clearwater furniture store) and since we had just moved to a new house without a lot of furniture that was a slight problem. I had to follow up with them numerous times only to find out that furniture we were waiting for (that we had been told we could get within a week or two after buying it) was sitting in the warehouse - but they were waiting for other out of stock items to arrive before they shipped it to us. (Clearly to avoid the extra shipping charges.) We were delivered the chairs for our dining room table WEEKS before the actual table and corresponding bench arrived - and when the table was actually delivered it was - I kid you not - BROKEN IN HALF. When the delivery guy called customer service to find out when we could get another one I was informed I couldn't because it was not only out of stock - it was DISCONTINUED. When I asked what I was supposed to do with chairs and a bench and no table - I was told I could pick out another table. WTF?? I sent the entire set back with the delivery guys and wrote an email to Peter Sachs - President of Stores - expressing my disgust at the entire situation. Wouldn't you know it, the very next day I got a call from customer service. It seems an order for the table had been cancelled and all of a sudden they had one for us. Riiiight. With profuse apologies they delivered the entire set a couple of days later. STUPIDLY, I thought this was the end of our grief. We were only expecting one other piece of furniture and surely we would receive it and go on with our lives never shopping there again. Was that the case - Of COURSE not - because it's Macy's!! Our final piece, a chest of drawers, was delivered with one of the drawers not working. It's a CHEST OF DRAWERS - the key word being "drawers". One of them not working defeats the purpose of having a chest of them. It should be called "Chest of drawer". Their solution - to send someone to fix it. Great. Fix the drawer of a brand new piece of furniture that was part of a fairly pricey bedroom set - that should have been delivered in pristine condition. Since I wasn't there to refuse the delivery (my husband accepted it) I resolved myself to this solution and we were told a service person would be there 2 days later - on a Saturday - to fix it. Except - let's remember we're dealing with the same company that thought delivering 2 pieces of a table wrapped in tight packaging was a good idea. Sure enough - we got a phone call from customer service and it seems they had overbooked their service people for Saturday - so they had to reschedule. And they did - for today. We went from being only mildly inconvenienced to me now having to use part of my work day, AGAIN, to deal with problems we had NOTHING to do with creating. I was supposed to get a call between 12:30 and 2:30 with a 30 minute warning so I could drive home and meet the service guy there. That time has come and gone with ZERO contact from anyone. I sat here through my lunch, waiting for the phone call, so I would minimize the impact on my work day. However, since he didn't call (and I waited until 3pm before finally reconciling myself to the fact that there WOULD be no call) I didn't end up having lunch since I was going to grab something at home. I could keep going (believe it or not - there's more) but I think you all get the point. I sent a second email to my buddy Peter last week - but this time all I heard was crickets - and after today I am on a personal campaign to drive as many people away from Macy's as humanly possible. My next venture is a YouTube video I intend to make, which is me singing along to a Karaoke version of "Don't Stop Believing" with the lyrics rewritten. It will be called "Don't Shop at Macy's". If I were Macy's I'd give you a date and then cancel it several times - but I'm not so I'll just say stay tuned.

Unresolved billing issue

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I've been having an ongoing, unresolved credit card billing dispute with Macy's. I have a spotless payment record, save for a payment that was one (yes, one) day late. I was levied a late fee for this payment. However, through the Macy's Secure Messaging Center, I was able to resolve the immediate issue-with a documented reversal of the fee. This should have made everything square. Then, for some unknown reason, Macy's decided to hand over my now apparently delinquent account to collections, and started adding fee after unexplained fee. My $62 monthly minimum billed at $160+ at last count. The collections people obviously have no access to my good payment history, and are harassing and very rude on the telephone. All this over a one-day-late payment.

Pay your bill on time. Late is late.

If you are late, be an adult, pay the fee and be more careful next month. Doesn't matter if it's one day or 10.

Sorry to disappoint you, I don't work for Macy's, it's not that easy. Not everyone who points out that sometimes it really is the customers fault works for the company.

The point here is that Macy's themselves 'forgave' the late payment, rescinded the fee, but is unwilling or unable to communicate these facts to whomever is handling the collections. I have no problem with a company going after habitual offenders, or downright deadbeats, but this case doesn't qualify as either.

Further, a one-day-late payment shows a sincere attempt to get the bill paid on time; a ten-day-late payment is a 'who cares' to the creditor. Big difference there.

Got store credit instead of credit on my Macy's charge

I shop at Macy's online since many of the items offered online are not available at my local store. I had 3 orders that had returns on them. Usually I take them back to the store but I thought I would use the new "free returns" feature and send them back.

BIG MISTAKE!!! They received the items and issued me store credits instead of refunding to my Macy's charge, which was how they were purchased.

NOW, 4 phone calls and 30 days later I still cannot get this resolved. I've been told I'll receive the credit in 7-10 business days (which I had been told after each of the 3 previous phone calls and adds up to the 30 days that I am still waiting).

They rolled out this free return shipping without fully vetting the process. I have been paying interest for items that were returned.

DO NOT send back anything to Macy's. If you bought it online, return it to the store.

YES, very same thing happened to me! It is a slick move now, that Macy's does.

Instead of getting your expected credit back to your account for a return, they send you this gift-card to use for the return amount.

Total bull-shit move by Macy's. We are canceling our credit card with them because of this.

Guest

I have the same problem now. I paid the balance owed on my credit card less the amount of the returned items.

They are still charging me interest on the amount of the returned items as they are not recognizing it as paid.

I made two calls so far without resolution. I don't have the patience- will be canceling my Macy's card.

Guest

I ordered two pairs of shoes because they weren't available in the store. They didn't fit and I returned them the very next day with their "free" returns shipping labels.

I kept checking my account for the credit, but then received received two "Happy Returns" gift cards in the mail. I called and they said they will credit my Macy's credit card in 7 to 10 business days.

As soon as that is done, I'm going to cancel my Macy's credit card that I've had for 10 years. A very underhanded move on their part.

I will shop at online at Nordstrom's from now on, as they actually credit your account.

Guest

Thanks for the tip. I will go with Norstrom's next time as I prefer to buy online but can't deal with Macy's "mistakes" which mysteriously benefit Macy's and not the customer.

Guest

I can think of no other major department store that would issue you a gift card in lieu of crediting your account for your return/refund. Just because they have it in very small print doesn't make it right - particularly for those items they request you return by mail as they are shipped directly from their vendors.

They are racking up LOTS of consumers' monies by holding their refunds hostile and making them shop at their store AGAIN in order to use up the balance on their not-so "Happy Returns" gift cards.

I used to use their gift registries a lot, but not anymore. (And I am one of their targeted income shoppers.)

You may not think it's right, and you are welcome to that opinion. However as a consumer it is my opinion before making a purchase from any store it is your responsibility as a consumer to read their return policy in case it becomes an issue and you can decide whether or not to purchase.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of MattD78

The problem is when you return a purchase via the online process, Macy's gives you the option of choosing how you would like the refund credited. You are then misled to believe you will receive the refund as you requested.

If they stand behind their policy, they should not need to mislead their customers.

Deception does not invite customer loyalty or confidence. It is short-sighted at best.

MattD78

It says right in the Return Policy online that if you mail back a return you will be sent a gift card for the return. Next time you are about to place an order online I'd suggest reading the website's return policy first to avoid this type of situation in the future.

To return a gift by mail, please read all instructions below prior to creating and printing your return label.

1.

Create your label by clicking on the link below and adhere it to the package containing the merchandise and original invoice or gift receipt.

2. Enter your reservation number into the RMA field on the USPS site. Examples of where you can find the reservation number on your invoice or gift receipt are provided below.

3. Take the returned merchandise to your local USPS branch for processing.

4.

Track the delivery process on the USPS site.

Credit will be issued in the form of a Macy's "Happy Returns" Gift Card for the full purchase amount. You will receive the Gift Card within 7-10 business days after your return has been processed.

MattD78

I realize it says gift however this is the same information listed under every part of the online policy on Macy's website. Apparently the only way to get a refund to the original form of payment is to return an item physically to the store.

DO NOT GET A Macy’s CREDIT CARD!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

DO NOT GET A Macy’s CREDIT CARD!

Day 1, I was talked into getting the credit card from the cashier.

Day 5, went online to payoff credit and learned I had to sign up for a Store Online Account, then put in credit account number. It said I had to wait 24 hours before registering my account.

Day 6, went online to pay; said I had to wait until account transaction was recorded (decided to wait until received bill in mail.

I started getting harassing calls from Macy’s; every hour every day.

I paid the balance off and was going to leave the account open; when I received another bill the next month for a $2.00 fee.

I paid the $2.00 fee online; called the next day to cancel the card and was told I had to wait 48 hours before I could cancel. This made me upset and tried to explain to her the above reasons I was canceling and she proceeded to tell me, “If I paid my bill on time I would not get harassing calls.” This made me angry as that I had tried to pay on time… she then told me if I cancelled the card, “I could never apply again.” - Like I would want to...in fact, I will never shop at Macy’s again for this reason.

Gift card sent for return instead of crediting my credit card

Thought I would give Macy's a try instead of Nordstrom, and won't make that mistake again. I ordered some things from Macy's online, a couple of them didn't work, so I shipped them back the next day, 3 weeks later, instead of crediting my credit card, they sent me Macy's gift cards.

It took me 30 minutes on the phone with them. Had to transfer me to a supervisor and I had to argue and defend how I sent them back to be able to get my credit card credited. They said it was because my shipping and billing info weren't the same.

They said it would take 1-2 billing cycles to see the credit on my card.

Just an update on my situation... Because this seems to be a common problem with Macy's, when I finally got a representative on the phone, I immediately (and politely) asked for a supervisor.

The guy was very nice, took my name, details of why I was calling, and transferred me over. Once the supervisor was on the phone, he apologized and said my Macy's credit card would be credited in 3 to 5 days, and he was sending me out a $20 gift card for the inconvenience.

With the pleasant customer service (other than waiting for over 30 mins to get someone on the line), I am still a satisfied customer. Hopefully this won't happen again.

Macy's Horrible Customer Service

I was late on a payment and worked with a customer representative to catch up. I EXPRESSED my concern with making the past due payment before it gets reported to the Credit Bureaus. They worked happily with me and told me the day it must post to avoid the reporting and I paid.Well, I ordered reports to check my credit score for future car purchase and Macys reported it 30 days past due. I called their credit depart., one rep. said they don't record phone conversations. I also added that they don't I asked to please review any notes and he said the last note was dated 2012. Then I asked to speak to the supervisor and all of sudden a few notes were found. She asked why I was late on the payment. Wow! I have been a card holder since 1990s great payment history. After exchange of words, she also said there is nothing she could do. So I am stuck with a drop in Fico Score and a blemish for 7 years. I called customer service 1-86*-593-**** and they said I shouldn't have been reported.

Horrible Customer Service

I made a purchase online (over $100), card was declined because of wrong exp. so re-entered 2 more times and again declined, called my bank and confirmed that there was more than enough money in my acct to cover, and glitch was on Macys end. Called Macys they then ran my 2 more times card and again same thing. Decided I would just order the next day, then I noticed that Macys had placed a hold on my account for the order 5 times. I called Macys right away and told them to remove the pending hold because it was over $500 at this point. Was told that they couldn't do for 7-10 buis days. Called my bank with them on the line and my bank informed them that they needed to fax over a request to remove authorization and it would be removed w/in 24 hours. Was promised it would be done. It wasn't. I called Monday told the same thing. Called Tuesday told the same thing. Finally on Wed. they actually did what was promised and by Thurs. the pending hold was removed from my acct. I spoke w/a "supervisor" who finally offered me a lousy 20% discount and free 1 day shipping. I went to reorder today and apply the 25% that Macys is offering if you spend over $100, and then wanted to apply the 20% plus free 1day shipping. Called to get help with this and was told that they cannot combine both discounts and I had to choose one. When I told them that the 20% was for my troubles and a "courtesy", so it should be applied in addition to, they just kept saying no way. Choose one. I then advised that my courtesy discount was worthless and they agreed. I cancelled my order and will never shop there again. Stay Away from MACY's!! They do not care about you at all.

Macys - Gift Card Review from Los Angeles, California

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
This is the second time this has happened to me within the last 3 years. Brand new gift card was still attached to the backing and the scratch off still in tact. Same bs from the cs line that someone used it buying Levi's jeans and some socks. All they kept reiterating was that I need the receipt to proceed with an investigation. Yeah like I'm going to have a *** receipt from a gift card that was purchased from a friend. I am now completely convinced that Macy's either, A. Is directly in the hoax by creating false transactions and stealing the consumer's money, B. Is not and will not take any proactive measures to fix this problem. I will never shop at Macy's ever again.

Macy's American Express card the worst in the world

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
it is a bomb in your pocket! what more information do you need about it? I called them to report fraudulent charges and they would tell me to wait for a form in letter for 2 weeks and then I need to fill them out and mail back. It'll take up to 90 days for them to investigate and meanwhile I cannot pay it because paying it is actually admitting my fault. So I had to pay them late fees and hurt my credit history. Don't know what will happen after 90 days. So this card will profit from their customers ordeals. and it is the worst credit card in the whole world.

Worst credit card ever

Worst credit card ever!!! The paperless credit card bill is scary. I didn't receive mine while traveling and when I finally arrived home I had a paper bill in the mail. The charge was $39 and was past due!! Of course I called and paid the bill immediately and explained what happened. Macy's filed a negative credit report to ALL 3 CREDIT BUREAUS. I tried to explain to Macy's consumer credit department that I found out that my email had been hacked, I never received the bills and I immediately came off "paperless" bills. Could they please remove the negative credit report. Every Macy's person I spoke to repeated the same phrase-we are unable to remove the negative report. Macy's tells you to provide information disputing the negative report and when you do, they just tell you they can't remove it. All of them are like robots and you will get absolutely NOWHERE talking with them. They are rude and it is clear Macy's doesn't train their employees on how to work with actual consumers. Oh by the way-they report automatically to the 3 credit bureaus every month for 7 years!!

1) If you know you get paperless bills in your e-mail and your e-mail is hacked it is your job to be proactive with the company in question so this exact situation doesn't occur.

2) The credit card is issued by American Express not Macy's. Macy's is not a bank, they do not loan money.

American Express loaned you the money, they are the ones who make the rules regarding credit reports so complaining to Macy's is useless since they don't make the rules/have anything they can do.

3) "We may report information about each of your accounts to credit bureaus. Late payments, missed payments, or other defaults on any of your accounts may be reflected in your credit report. We may report account information in your name and the names of authorized users. We may also obtain follow-up credit reports on you.

If you think we reported incorrect information to a credit bureau, write us at the address shown on the back of your billing statement in the section titled “Disputed Accuracy of Credit Report”.

We will investigate the matter. We will then tell you if we agree or disagree with you. If we agree with you, we will contact each credit bureau to which we reported and request a correction. If we disagree with you, we will tell you that."

This is in the credit agreement YOU signed and agreed to.

It says if you are late they have every right to report you to the credit bureaus. It also tells you how to dispute the report if you feel they acted in error (though given you freely admitted to missing the payment I'm not sure what you expect them to do).

Extreme shipping delays and terrible customer service

The worst online shopping experience ever to be had and surprising that it happened at Macys which is such a big organization. Purchased an in stock watch and after not getting an shipping information after 5 days, I emailed to get an update on the shipment only to be told that the watch hasn’t even been sent to Borderfree which ships the items out and the watch will in fact take a additional days just to get to Borderfree (who will take 3-5 working days) to get the item to DHL to be even shipped out. This was purchased as a present for my best friend’s birthday which is on 21st March. I kept a reasonable 16 days margin for the watch to get delivered. The watch will definitely not make it here on time and now I will have to purchase another present for my friend. I will then get stuck with an item I don’t require. When I complained about the terrible service to international customer service about the delay no explanations were given as to why this supposed delay of a week has occurred just to get the watch to Borderfree. This is one of the worst online companies to deal with. I wouldn’t recommend Macys for online shopping to anyone. You are much better off dealing off with ASOS and others who get the item delivered within 4-5 working days. Unacceptable level of service; basically *** service all over. Don’t bother ordering anything from these people! First and only order with Macys that’s for sure!

Macy"s Gift Card for a Wedding Gift

I ordered a $100 gift card as a wedding gift 2 weeks before the Las Vegas wedding on February 20th for a San Diego couple. I attended the weeding and returned home. A week later I was told by the couple no gift had been received. Following up with Macy's I was told it was either lost or stolen and another card would be sent in 2-3 days. A week later to follow up, I called and was told it was not processed and the new card would not be received before March 13th. It is now over a month since I placed the order and no gift card has been sent. Macy's has told me there is no tracking of gift cards for security reasons(?) and I cannot receive updates only the recipient of the gift can contact them for questions. Really, I bought it and the couple has to track their own gift. NEVER, Never again Macy's! Very poor caring customer service

Macy's Fine Jewlery Department is mess

I bought a diamond ring (multi-diamond) from Macy on 3/7/2015. The sales lady told me that it is total 3/4 ct tw diamond on the ring. The tag and receipt both state that it is 3/4 CT diamond. I got home, remove the tag and saw "1/2 TW" in the ring. It means 1/2 CT, not 3/4 CT diamond on the ring. I went back to the store on the next day. The manager told me that they cannot do anything to me, because the store is going to close in couple of weeks. Even they are going to close, but Macy's still should sell product as they described. I contacted Macys.com customer service. They said this case has to be handled by store. Then, 3/11/15, only 4th day that I bought the ring, one of the diamond is lost. Such poor quality! I will never ever purchase any fine jewelry from Macy's again, NEVER!

so you went to get jewelry at a macy's store that was closing...you probably got the item extremely marked down and you were also told that there were absolutely no refunds or exchanges since the store was closing. this is done cause macy's sells their inventory in the stores that are closing to a liquidation company.

You don't know how lucky you are. I have had a Macy's card for over 50 years and they treat me like a dog.

They owe me a credit in the amount of $2,400 and have for two weeks.

Let this be a lesson for all: Don't use the credit card of the company where you made the purchase. This way they have you because since the two are the same, you can't get a credit reversal.
