First-off I have been shopping at Macy's for at least 15yrs now, however after my recent "Online Experience" and being treated like a "Terrorist" cause I was trying to purchase a gift for a relative online I doubt I will ever return to one again..!!

I have never had such an awful online purchasing experience shopping online as just recently March 2015 with Macy's. First-off online ordering should be simple, quick and efficient especially now days. I do of course understand proper security measures and all for consumer protection, however falling short of having to provide a DNA sample is absurd, and not even for using a credit card but a Gift Card purchase LOL...!!!

So here it goes, I'm shopping online for my brothers birthday who lives about 2000 miles away in another state, makes since to order online and have shipped to him, correct? Makes it quick easy and efficient or well so it seems. My experience with Macy's was anything but and was one of the most ridiculous situations I have ever dealt with ordering online and one I choose to never experience again. The shopping part was OK selected my items and set-up the cart, figuring out the checkout was confusing at first but I managed, and I ended up setting up an "online account" as well so I could 1 do future orders but also keep track of this order.

As someone who understands the world we live in today typically I stay pretty secure online only using Pre-paid cards or gift cards to protect my personal information as you never know these days. In this case I was using a Macy's gift card I had from the store, which I THOUGHT would be pretty logical and simple, hahaha jokes on me cause guess again. First-off I have to enter a bunch of personal information as in IE my billing address, phone, email etc OK pretty standard though. Of course I'm again shipping to a different address to my Brother as a gift, but makes since to have my info as well, understandable...

Order seems to go through OK get the confirmation emails in about 15-20min and then a shipping confirmation a few hours later scheduled to ship in 2days, a bit slow being I paid for "Express Shipping" as for it t definitely get therein time.

Then comes the absolute B.S. part the next day I get an email around mid-morning claiming something about my "Order Couldn't be Processed" I'm thinking OK strange being umm I paid with a Macys gift card I knew had the funds available, obviously provided all my correct info and its going to my Brother IE same last names and all, not Shuerik Mohammed in some foreign land. The even more strange part is within the email which came from their supposed "Consumer Protection" department it said that some phone message had been left at some number ending in 4-numbers which 1-WAS NOT MY NUMBER, 2-NOT a number I provided within my Account Set-Up, or MY Billing Info and was in no way connected to me. It also claimed some verification code was left on this "Said Number" again NOT MINE or anywhere listed on my order, period; and that and I quote "I would need this Verification Code" when calling in. However this code was not listed in the email but there was a consumer protection number listed to call.

So of course I call as I am a little frustrated #1 that now my order and personal info just went out to some random number with an access code to access not only my order details but also my personal details most likely as well, awesome security guys, and great "consumer protection". And of course #2 I now almost 2-days later need this order completed and shipped, not to mention its a *** Macys gift card with funds available that I got directly from the store, so I'm like ummm hello.

So I get this halfwit "agent" on the phone who I'm not even sure was "Consumer Protection" or just another call center agent with different script and Indian dialect. I start off by explaining first-off that I received an email and its contents, of course relaying my extreme dissatisfaction and concern with the apparent "Incorrect Number" as well. MY concerns however must NOT really be any concern of theirs cause she goes right into some verification process very rudely with me after I do provide the accurate Order# and of course THE RIGHT phone number associated with my order, however she was rude about the mystery access/verification code that went to the mystery phone number. So after about 15min of this I am becoming quite ANNOYED as not only are they wasting my time, the whole process was ridiculous. So I wrap the conversation back to MY CONCERNS after all this is supposedly "Consumer Protection" however nothing yet has been relating to me or my protection just some overbearing process of being drilled about addresses and shipments reasons etc.

So we get back to the wrong number topic and with very little concern the agent offers well maybe it is an "Old" number of yours, I'm like WOW is this person a misguided robot; as don't you think I'd know an old number of mine unless ok maybe it was 20yrs ago, but yet none the less ITS STILL WRONG and you're sending info relating to my purchase to it.

Then the conversation gets even more ridiculous as she informs me that I will absolutely need the "Verification Code" sent to that number to proceed any further. So now I am dumbfounded not only have I just wasted 20min verifying absolutely ALL of my accurate information short of a Family Tree & Autobiography highlighting my personal memoirs, and just informed you that whatever phone number that the info was sent to is wrong .Now you turn right around and tell me I absolutely have to have this said info or call from that number which is NOT MINE, and all I know are the last 4-digits of the number from the email, which hmm did get to ME as it was specified on my order correctly, hmmm hello EARTH to MACYS anyone home, no apparently not.

At this point I am more than irritated and re-explain that they are asking me to retrieve information from a Vmail or place a call from a phone number which I am informing them is in no way associated to me currently and/or ever for that matter. Secondly that I have provided them ALL my personal details as currently accurate and that if they'd like to make contact with me via my CORRECT number as listed in my order I'd be more than happy to receive said code or continue a subsequent conversation. Very rudely the agent explains that well this is part of an "Order Verification Process" and that they will absolutely need to verify this as indicated as some of my information didn't verify, YEAH OBVIOUSLY the incorrect wrong number you pulled somewhere out of cyberspace being I am "Unlisted" and have a fairly common name. Granted I only have a Company Cellphone and no landline but UMMM its 2015 who has landlines anymore and it shouldn't make a difference, not to mention I AM PAYING WITH A MACYS GIFT CARD not even a Credit Card..!!! Which at least if this was a high dollar credit transaction online OK I MIGHT understand but we are talking about a $400 Macy's Gift Card purchase, not a $8500 Rolex on an AMEX, which honestly I have done with MUCH LESS HASSLE online. So long story short I get absolutely NOWHERE with this conversation and ask for a "Supervisor" which am rudely told "There are none available" and no-one could do anything different anyways. WHAT?

So basically there is nothing that I can do and she says again and very rudely, you can call us back from the requested number or provide the code left, yeah from the number that is not mine. So I get smart and say well consumer protection to sum up this conversation; basically you have acknowledged sending my personal order details and "access code" to some unspecified incorrect phone number, which IF it belongs to someone that now mystery person can call in with this mystery verification code or from the mystery number, and hypothetically speaking of course being he is now ME and I'm not ME cause I don't have said code.He being me of course can now make any changes to my order IE mail it somewhere else, change the items, whatever, and you have provided him full opportunity and access to do so. ALL IN THE NAME OF CONSUMER PROTECTION FOR A MACYS GIFT CARD PURCHASE of $400.

She again offers her Verification Process Script, to which I laugh as its obviously a useless process and is in NO WAY MY PROTECTION rather the opposite, imagine if I didn't catch the email in the 100's I get a day, and said person had called in before me changing my entire order around..!! So basically all I can do is cancel the order a this point she points out and without getting the code they wouldn't be able to process it and would cancel it anyways, well unless the secret code recipient calls in. So of course I say YES I want to cancel it, to which she indicates SHE wont be able to do for me since I don't have the code, but offers that I can go online to my account and cancel it if I wish to, just when you thought it couldn't get anymore RETARDED well leave it to MACYS they found a way.

At this point I am over being treated like a Al-Qaida member on the phone trying to somehow extort $400 from Macys with a Gift Card Purchase. Having my personal information deliberately compromised by them, not being able to fix anything myself about myself because they have some substandard 1986 NSA Screening Process for Verification of online orders made with a Freaking Store Issued Cash Paid Macys Gift Card, which btw I even offered to verify physical possession of the card IE Number/Pin, thinking "Logically" that would clear it right up, ummm guess again there is NO LOGIC in this and absolutely NO Consumer Protection, just plain insanity...!!!

I WILL NEVER SHOP AT MACYS AGAIN ONLINE OR N STORE AFTER THIS COMPLETE STUPIDITY..!!

IF you want to actually "GET" your orders and have GOOD Customer Service/Protection and Assurance I definitely suggest shopping at ANY of the 100's of other online retailers, apparently Macys is NOT concerned in the least with its shoppers, their personal data or experiences what so ever..!!!! AVOID AVOID AVOID or go through the same hassles many have, read the reviews; wish I had...!!!

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

I had similar experience with Macy's website today. I spoke to man on phone to "confirm" my order and he was so rude and snarky. I will be cancelling my Macy's card as soon as I can.
