I purchased a comforter and Macy, Redondo Beach, Ca, and had to return the very next day because the comforter was way too short for my queen size bed. The return was not a problem; getting my money was. When the cashier rang me up, I was given a choice of debit or credit. I chose debit and used my pin number which is a cash transaction. I'm thinking I could get my cash back since they instantly swiped my account and took it out. I was told NO cash would be given to me, and that credit and debit cards are treated the same, that it will take 3 to 5 days to get my cash back!

Not pleased with this, I called Macy's corporte office. The *** executive assistant said that they had to match up everything, the account numbers and the amount to make sure the money went back in the right account. OH....LOL! The cashier was dumb; the exeuctive assistant, dumber. They were concerned with matching up anything when they took it out.

If this is how Macy's handles returns, then it should be clearly posted so consumers would know what to expect. I will not shop there anymore and hope these stores go out of business. Personally, I liked it a lot better when it was Robinsons-May. Macys suck!

I had a similar issue at the Rockford, IL Macy's. My daughter was going to the mall with a friend and needed cash for something to eat. I had purchased a $8 shirt from Macy's that needed to be returned. I told her to go ahead and take that back for the cash. I did not want to go the ATM.

I left her at the mall and then got a call from her saying Macy's would not give her cash even though it was a debit purchase. The lady at the counter would not budge and I asked her to put a manager on the phone. The manager whose last name was Conklin was the extremely rude and condescending. I explained that it woudl be an inconvenience for me to have to come back with a debit card for an $8 dollar purchase. She kept saying that is their policy. I told her I was not in the mall and couldn't bring back the card right away. She repeated again that is their policy. I questioned her ability as a manager to please their customer and bend the rule. I mean it was only a $8 shirt!! She said no. Every other retailer offers you cash or they can put it on your card. I have worked in customer service for 20 years and I have always had manager allow me to make the customer happy within a certain limit. I think the $8 was within that limit.

I am a loyal Macy's shopper that is reconsidering where I shop. If I can't be treated without any type of consideration why do I spend my money there.

At this point, due to the tone and the attitude I received from the manager, I will no longer shop at the Rockford, IL Macy's. I travel quite a bit and will shop at those Macy's but Rockford will not get another dime from me. I will only use them for returns.

I hope that Macy's corporate will reconsider this stance as well as encouraging their managers to make the customer happy where it is appropriate.
